But fear not, because today we’re flipping the script. These amazing snacks will nourish your body, upgrade your taste buds, and give you a newfound appreciation for the joys of eating.

These snacks aren’t just about fueling your body—they’re about celebrating your journey toward self-love, and self-care, reclaiming your relationship with food.

While recovering from an eating disorder, finding moments of joy and pleasure in the foods we eat is important. That’s why I am sharing my favourite selection of snacks that I truly love and enjoy. Maybe you’ll find you love them too!

And guess what? I’m here to let you in on a little secret—snack 3 and snack 6? They’re my all-time favourites, and I can’t wait to share them with you!

Nakd

Nakd snacks made with dried fruit and nuts, available in various flavours. No artificial ingredients, gluten-free, and dairy-free.

The Company, Nakd, has a range of delicious dried fruit and nut bars, without any added artificial ingredients. They are also all gluten-free, and dairy-free, making them available for many to enjoy.

They have many different flavours, including peanut butter, blueberry muffin, Bakewell tart, cocoa orange, and many more. Not only do they have dried fruit and nut bars, but they also have 3 additional snack ranges.

One is protein bars, the other is high in fibre, and lastly, one is covered with chocolate. Over the years I have been able to try all of their flavours, and they are just amazing and a true taste bud activator.

My absolute favourite is cocoa and orange, it reminds me of Java cakes, but a better version of them.

Eating disorder related: If you are being admitted into a mental health hospital, there is a high chance that Nakd bars will be on the snack list!

Nucao Vegan Chocolate Snacks

Nucao vegan chocolate snack bars from Leipzig, Germany, with eco-friendly packaging and sustainably sourced ingredients. For every bar purchased, a tree is planted.

Nucao is a brand that is based in Leipzig, Germany. They have produced a wide range of different flavoured vegan chocolate snack bars. Focusing not only on making delicious snacks, but also on being eco-friendly. Their bars are packaged in paper, and their ingredients are sustainably produced.

With every bar you buy, a tree gets planted, which is a great way to enjoy something so delicious while also doing good for the world.

Not only do they produce snack bars, but they also make chocolate-dried fruits, and chocolate nuts.

If you aren’t convinced about the sound of vegan chocolate, then I would recommend you trying these snack bars. Though they are vegan, they taste like normal chocolate.

Some of their vegan snack bar flavours include:
  • salted caramel
  • Almond sea salt
  • crisp and crunch
  • chocolate-covered raspberry and strawberries
  • chocolate almonds

If you come from the UK, then not all products will be available. Over the years they have started to expand their brand, and some of their snacks can be found in Sainsbury’s.

Misfits

Bright and quirky protein snack bars, perfect for in-between meals or sweet cravings. Trying new things in eating disorder recovery, including wafers.

Misfits is still quite a new brand in the UK, but they are growing rapidly. Their snack bars are high in protein, and low in sugar, though still hitting the sweet spot.

They are the perfect in-between meal snacks, or when you’re craving something sweet yet high in protein. Their brand is ideal for the 21st century, with its bright, quirky colours and range of flavours. There is a snack bar for everyone.

Some of their flavours include:

  • cookie dough
  • speculoos
  • peanut butter fudge
  • brownie

Not only do they do protein snack bars, but they also have protein wafers with flavours including vanilla and chocolate.

I’m going to be honest with you, I have never liked wafers before, both before and during my eating disorder. However, recovering from an eating disorder means trying new things and stepping out of your comfort zone. So that’s exactly what I did.

After trying them, I was amazed! They are sooooo good, especially the white chocolate vanilla wafer.

After trying it, I sent a DM on Instagram to the company saying, ‘What is this sorcery? This is amazing!’

P.S. They are very responsive on their social media platforms, which creates a sense of collaboration between us and ensures they are not just producing their products without considering their buyers’ needs.

Corny snack bars

Long-standing snack brand with muesli bars in flavours like blueberry, chocolate, and hazelnut. Uses Rainforest Alliance-certified chocolate. Includes CORNY Protein, Haferkraft, and more. Mostly available in Germany.

Their snack brand has been around for many years now, offering a range of different flavoured muesli bars including blueberry, chocolate, hazelnut, and strawberry.

They get their chocolate from Rainforest Alliance-certified farmers, which ensures sustainable and ethical sourcing practices.

Other product ranges include CORNY Protein, CORNY Haferkraft, CORNY Haferkraft Zero, freeCORNY, Haferkraft Crunch, and MilchCORNY Nussvoll. They have so many options!

However, as far as I know, they are only available in Germany. If you do find yourself in Germany, why not give them a try?

KIND Snacks

KIND snacks known for using pronounceable ingredients like nuts and honey, avoiding additives like monosodium glutamate and polydextrose. Options include original bars, protein bars, and thins.

As the name already mentions, they are KIND, OK jokes aside.

What I like about their brand is that they only use ingredients that you can pronounce. So you won’t be seeing ingredients like monosodium glutamate, polydextrose, and glycerin. Because, let’s face it, no one knows what these ingredients are.

Instead, the brand focuses on using natural ingredients like nuts and honey.

They have many different options to choose from. There are the original bars, protein bars and thins.

My ‘Original’ bar favourites

Protein snacks

Barebells Protein Snacks

Personal journey of overcoming fear foods in eating disorder recovery. Barebells snacks became a favourite, leading to a newfound love for snacks and life. Recommended for those with a sweet tooth. Top flavors include Cookie and Cream, Hazelnut and Nougat, and Caramel Chocolate.

I left the best for last.

A little backstory: while in recovery from an eating disorder, it is important to face your fear foods (you can find a blog on fear foods here).

I struggled with eating my ‘prescribed’ snacks because I had an irrational fear of gaining weight and becoming muscly. So what did I do? I chose to challenge that thought. After being discharged from my last unit, I faced this fear.

Barebells was the brand I chose, and I am happy I did. After 4 months of being discharged, I can finally say that I LOVE eating my snacks. To be specific, I love Barebells! Admitting this is still a hard thing for me. But I can and will say, “Damn, I Love My Life!”

If you have a sweet tooth and are looking for something to enjoy in between meals or when you’re craving something, Barebells is perfect for you!

I recommend getting a variety pack first, as it allows you to try all the flavours before deciding on your favourites.

My TOP bars are Cookie and cream, Hazelnut and Nougat, and caramel choco.

Embrace Your Journey

Recovery is not a straight path, but with the right support and nourishing choices, you can find joy in every step. These snacks are more than just treats—they’re a celebration of your strength and resilience.

Remember, you deserve to enjoy delicious, nutritious foods supporting your health and happiness journey.

Recovery is not a destination but a journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance
